Although it appeared on screen for only a few brief moments - and never in plain sight - the Queen Chestburster played a pivotal role in the film. The unborn Queen was the only thing which prevented the Dog Alien from tearing Ripley to shreds. And of course, it serves as the catalyst for Ripley´s eventual sacrificial suicide.
