The son of Zeus, king of the gods, and Danae, mortal queen of Argos, Perseus grew up unaware of his royalty or godly birthright. Upon hearing of his wife's infidelity, the king of Argos commanded that Danae be cast into the sea with her newborn son, never to be seen again. Pulled from the waves by a fisherman, the infant Perseus was taken in and raised as the simple family's own son.

Now a man, Perseus looks on as a group of soldiers from Argos destroys a statue of Zeus in a declaration of war against the gods. Enraged by their hubris, Hades, godly brother of Zeus, appears before them to issue a warning and transforms into a flock of harpies, destroying both the soldiers and Perseus' family's fishing boat. Unable to save his family from drowning, Perseus is taken captive by the surviving soldiers and delivered back to the King and Queen of Argos.

At a feast in the soldiers' honor, the king and his queen Cassiopeia compare themselves and their beautiful daughter Andromeda to the gods. Infuriated by yet another display of their pride, Zeus allows Hades to appear before the arrogant feast and punish the humans for their defiance of the god's rule. After slaughtering the remaining soldiers, Perseus is left unharmed by Hades who reveals him as the long-lost son of Zeus. But Perseus rejects his parentage and swears vengeance upon the gods for the loss of the family who raised him. The unwilling demigod embarks on an epic quest to stop the gods from destroying Argos with Poseidon's most terrible monster, the Kraken.
