The past few days have been quite hectic on our end, which is why we had to skip the
trailer news for once. To make up for it, here's a roundup of last week's highlights:
IN THE HAND OF DANTE
Dante Alighieri is considered the grandfather of the modern fantasy and mystery epic, and his »Divine Comedy«, despite its religious background, is the foundational work of the genre. Julian Schnabel's mystery drama
»In the Hand of Dante« — based on Nick Tosches' novel of the same name, in which he portrays himself and his wife as reincarnations of the poet and his wife Gemma Donati — concerns itself with the convoluted origins and the lost autograph of this opus. A historical drama set in Dante's time and a Mafia film noir set in Tosches' time are woven together into a single narrative. Even from the trailer alone, the film looks genuinely stunning – perhaps all the more so because it blends two completely opposing genres. The cast is equally impressive:
Oscar Isaac and
Gal Gadot lead the film, joined by Gerard Butler, Al Pacino, John Malkovich, Martin Scorsese and Jason Momoa. Despite all that, the reviews are quite ambivalent – everything from "chaotic" and "unintentionally funny" to "narrative masterpiece" is being said. Check out the first trailer here:

Netflix on June 24.
DISCLOSURE DAY
With every trailer we see of
Steven Spielberg's »Disclosure Day«, we get more excited about this epic. A genuine
sci-fi thriller in the spirit of the '90s, the kind that dominated the box office back in the days of »Independence Day«, including the 30th collaboration between Spielberg and the now-93-year-old
John Williams, who came out of retirement especially for this. And yet the film seems strangely absent from public discourse, practically drowning in the sci-fi barrage (»Project Hail Mary«, »The Mandalorian and Grogu«, »Masters of the Universe«, »Dune: Part Three« and »Avengers: Doomsday«) of the year. Could it be the rather laid-back marketing? Either way, we believe this is a film truly made for the cinema experience. The trailer is absolutely worth a look:

ENOLA HOLMES 3
Millie Bobby Brown seems to have become the focal point of some kind of generational conflict on the internet. It's genuinely strange how Comment Warriors seemingly have nothing better to do than flood every comment section about her projects with truly vile remarks — as happened a few weeks ago when the first set photos from
»Enola Holmes 3« appeared. Now the first teaser is here and we're looking forward to the film. The blend of
action-packed mystery, light
historical romance and comedic fourth-wall breaks worked brilliantly in the first two installments, Brown is a perfect fit for the role — and the fact that her brother Sherlock (Henry Cavill) appears to have been kidnapped on the very day of her wedding to Tewkesbury (Louis Partridge) makes for a delightfully fun premise. Netflix on July 1.
VOUGHT RISING
Now for the series. Opinions are divided on the
»The Boys« finale, but one criticism is definitely justified: while the excellent spin-off »Gen V« had built up several characters as key players (Marie Moreau above all) for the final season of the main series, their appearances were reduced to a few impactless cameos — and »Gen V« was cancelled. Instead, it was painfully obvious how
showrunner Eric Kripke tried at all costs to forge a connection to the upcoming second
spin-off series »Vought Rising«, in which
Jensen Ackles will return as Soldier Boy. Set in the 1950s, the prequel deals with the founding of the mega-corporation during the Cold War and the Nazi connections of Liberty alias Clara Vought (Aya Cash, also known as Stormfront — and likely Homelander's mother — from the main series). That the series will once again be gloriously gory fun is guaranteed. Still, the decisions made by Amazon and Kripke feel a little too much like the decisions of their own spoof corporation, Vought. The series launches on
Amazon Prime Video in 2027 — here's the trailer:

And last but not least, a trailer for a series that already got its
first episode last Friday:
»Star City« is a
spin-off of Apple TV+'s sci-fi blockbuster series »For All Mankind«, which also aired its season finale for the current fifth season on Friday. The main series depicts an
alternative history in which the Soviets are the first to successfully land a crewed mission on the moon, meaning the
Space Race never ended and a Mars colony is established as early as the early 2000s. What makes the main series special is that each season takes place roughly ten years after the previous one, while the cast remains the same — all thanks to truly incredible prosthetic make-up. Whether the spin-off will follow the same pattern remains to be seen. For now, it starts in 1969 and portrays the Soviet side of this alternative history in significantly darker imagery than the main series. Here's the trailer:
