After the German version of the book KINGS OF THE SNAKE MEN about Axel Giménez and Leonardo Vega by the author Timo Mrazek, the wait for the English version will soon come to an end:

The long awaited »Black Myth: Wukong« was finally released in the morning hours. In the game you take on the role of Monkey King Sun Wukong, one of the most famous characters of Chinese mythology. The content of the game is based on the events of the Chinese novel »The Journey to the West«, which was published in the 16th century.

The game was able to generate a huge hype in advance. One of the reasons for that are the impressive graphics, which will especially appeal to all those who already feel a longing for the Far East. In addition, there is a spectacular-looking combat system that allows you to combine close and ranged combat as well as magic attacks. Since the game will probably contain over 80 boss enemies, a creative arrangement of the different weapon types will likely be crucial for your success in the game.

»Black Myth: Wukong« was released today for PC and PS5. The Xbox release will follow soon.

It's a good time for horror films right now! The genre's market share is constantly growing and the days when horror films were a niche product avoided by film critics are long gone. »The Substance« by Coralie Fargeat (»Revenge«) was nominated for the Palme d'Or in Cannes this year and won the award for best screenplay. And critics are celebrating the film euphorically.

Here's the premise:
Elisabeth Sparkle, played by Demi Moore, is the star of an aerobics show. On her 50th birthday she is fired due to her age. She unexpectedly receives a tempting offer. Using a miraculous "substance" she can transform into a younger self. In her new perfect form she calls herself Sue (Margaret Qualley). Every seven days she has to swap bodies ...

Fargeat consistently condenses this thought experiment about beauty ideals, aging and toxic media into a hardcore body horror. The trailer really makes you want to see the film and shows the premise, but fortunately doesn't give away too much of the impending horror:

Today, »Alien: Romulus« opens in cinemas. Fede Alvarez's film takes place in the time between »Alien« and »Aliens«, exactly between the two most popular films of the series. Our Mick had the opportunity to watch »Alien: Romulus« in a preview last night. Here comes his impression:

It begins with the awakening of a spaceship. The onboard computer starts up. The lights gradually come on. The images exude the charm of the retro-futuristic design and they are a wonderful reference to »Alien« from 1979. It felt like coming home. I made myself comfortable in my cinema seat; this promised to be the film I had been waiting for for a long time.

After the spaceship scene, the film is dedicated to the introduction of the main characters and world building. We get to know the monotonous and hopeless life of the main characters Rain (Cailee Spaeny) and Andy (David Jonsson) in the darkness of a mining colony. Together with four other young colonists, they travel to the Romulus space station, which has crashed in orbit, to steal five cryo pods …

Camera work and set design create fantastic images that I can't get enough of. Fede Alvarez shows himself to be a true fan and as a horror director he delivers and creates intensity and tension with a good sense of timing in a believable setting with many handmade effects. It is a straightforward and very entertaining horror film without philosophical frills, a film by a fan for fans. There are many familiar elements, and we get a kind of "best of" of the previous films, but at the same time Alvarez shies away from trying anything really new. In terms of gore and violence, it could have gone a bit further for my taste. Of course there are also CGI effects that work well for the most part, with one not so successful exception, which I cannot go into here without spoiling it.

Cailee Spaeny does a very good job as the female lead character. Her relationship with her stepbrother Andy in particular forms the emotional anchor of the story, and at the same time she follows in great footsteps. She does not have the charisma of an Sigourney Weaver (Ellen Ripley), but the comparison is not entirely fair. David Jonsson as Andy delivers the best performance in the whole film. With his multi-layered portrayal of an android, he is already making »Alien« history.

»Alien: Romulus« is a good film - not perfect, but exciting and entertaining. As an »Alien« fan, I had a lot of fun in the cinema with this declaration of love for the old films. If you are an »Alien« fan, too, you should definitely watch »Alien: Romulus« - best on the big screen!

Today, we have a very special recommendation for you for a TV series that actually doesn't really fit in the usual S.P.A.C.E pattern - but we have to put this one on your watch-list: The Bear: King of the Kitchen!

When hearing »The Bear« you might assume that we're talking about a new "Discovery" animal documentation or another cooking show like »The Taste« or so. Nope, »The Bear« for us is one of the most thrilling, exciting and so to say razor sharp produced drama series that currently are available on all streaming platforms!

In season 1 which already launched in late 2022 in the US, we get to meet star chef Carmen 'Carmy' Berzatto who inherited the Italian fast food restaurant "The Beef" from his passed-away brother Michael. "The Beef" will be turned into "The Bear" - but that's all we can spoiler. You should definately find out the rest on your own - especially if you liked »Shameless« and the leading actor Jeremy Allen White who plays Carmy in »The Bear«.

The 3rd season went up on HULU a couple of weeks ago and is now hitting Disney+ in other countries finally. Of course, season 1 and 2 are still available. So make yourself a tasty Italian Beef Sandwich and binge the first episodes of »The Bear« if you are into hot food from hell's kitchen or just need a brake from all the superhero, fantasy or SciFi stuff.

The D23 Expo, Disney's big annual fan event, took place in Anaheim, California past weekend. There were many trailers and new announcements from Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and Disney itself. Along there were many sequels and remakes, but also completely new films and series. Here's our round-up for you:


DISNEY

After about eight years, Walt Disney Animation Studios finally teased the second part of the animation success »Zootopia« at D23. In the first movie, the focus is on the police bunny Judy Hopps and her fox accomplice Nick Wilde. This should also be the case with »Zootopia 2«. You will see the two together on screen again in November 2025.

Fans of Anna and Elsa can also be happy. After waiting quite a while for the second and third part of »Frozen«, the fourth one will probably follow quickly. That's because Disney is working on the third and fourth movie at the same time. The release of »Frozen 3« is planned for fall 2027. However, there is no specific date for the fourth part, but only the statement that the story definitely dosn't end after three films.

On the stage of the D23, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson announced the movie »Monster Jam«, in which he will participate. The first pictures have already been shown. The film is based on the motorsport event of the same name. No details about the plot or the release date are currently known.

Of the live-action adaptation of »Lilo & Stitch« you can find a really cute preview. In it, the animated Stitch breaks out of the poster for the film announcement. In the summer of 2025, you will be encountering fluffy fur and cute alien eyes. In the original version, Chris Sanders once again lends his voice to the alien, as he did in the 2002 animated film. Newcomer Maia Kealoha as Lilo and »Hangover« star Zach Galifianakis as Dr. Jamba Jookiba are also starring in the live-action adaption.

For the film »Tron: Ares«, a part of the cast appeared at D23, including Jared Leto, who plays the eponymous AI Ares. Gillian Anderson, who gained fame mainly through »The X-Files«, and Greta Lee also play important roles in »Tron: Ares«. And of course Jeff Bridges is back on board. The third installment of the »Tron« franchise is a standalone sequel, which is scheduled to hit theaters on October 10, 2025.

This time, »Avatar« fans do not have to wait years for a sequel. With »Avatar: Fire and Ash« the story of Jake and Neytiri continues. However, it is supposed to be darker than before. As indicated in the title, it is about the "ash tribe" among the Na'vi. With this, director James Cameron wants to show a different side of them. The release is scheduled for December 19, 2025.

Disney has announced the second installment of the 2003 comedy »Freaky Friday« at D23. After 22 years, »Freakier Friday« will be released, again with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan in their roles as daughter and mother.

In the wake of the D23, Walt Disney Animation Studios dropped the official trailer for »Moana 2«, which will be released in cinemas in late November. In the second film of the series, Moana sails across the sea after unexpectedly hearing the call of her ancestors. You can see what awaits you in the animated musical in the trailer:

After years in production hell, there was also a first trailer for the Disney live-action film »Snow White«, the very controversial and hotly debated Disney production. Starting with the dwarf discussion initiated by Peter Dinklage, to the stupid comments made by lead actress Rachel Zegler, who called the prince a stalker in an interview and made Snow White the girl boss. The ratio of likes and dislikes on YouTube of the trailer alone shows that fans of the original animated film »Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs« from 1937, Disney's first feature film, have probably not forgiven her for this embarrassing appearance. The Evil Queen is played by Gal Gadot, which will probably be one of the few highlights of the movie. The trailer takes you into Snow White's magical (very artificial) world, which you can immerse yourself at cinemas in March 2025 - if you like:

PIXAR

Pixar announced two sequels. There are no further details yet about »The Incredibles 3« - but there was a short teaser for »Toy Story 5«. According to director Andrew Stanton, Woody, Buzz and the gang will fight to ensure that their new child won't become an iPad child. "This time around, it's toy meets tech" said Stanton at the D23 presentation. "It's going to be fun, and we can't wait for you all to see it in the summer of 2026.".

Now it's finally set to release in the summer of 2025. A little boy named Elio is mistaken for the Earth's ambassador and ends up in an alien world where he is supposed to represent the Earth.

The brand new film »Hopper« is planned to be released in 2026. Hopper tells the story of Mabel, a young girl who transfers her consciousness into a robot beaver to learn more about the animal world.

The first Pixar TV series »Win or Lose« will launch on December 6, 2024. It's all about the Pickles softball team, which is preparing for a championship. In it we get to know insecure children, helicopter parents, a lovesick referee and the Pickles' trainer. Here is the first trailer:

MARVEL

Of course there was also a lot to see - and to celebrate - at Disney's superhero department, because »Deadpool & Wolverine« crossed the 1 billion box office border these days! Congratulations, although we didn't expect anything less ;).

Clearly Anthony Mackie aka Sam Wilson couldn't be missing at the even. He was again chatting with Feige about »Captain America: Brave New World«. There were also some sizzles about »The Fantastic Four: First Steps«. But really exciting were the latest infos - and actually first teasers which were only shown to visitors at the panel and some press guys - on the »Ironheart« serie (launching on Disney+ in 2025) and of course of the continuation »Daredevil«.

For that, the new "old" cast of the »Marvel's Daredevil« Netflix series (2015 to 2018) came on stage under thounderous applause - and the presented »Daredevil: Born Again« teaser (leaks can be found on YouTube ...) was a damn blast! We are really in a pleasant and positive anticipation here and are very looking forward to March, to meet Charlie Cox, Vincent D'Onofrio and Jon Bernthal again.

STAR WARS

Four new trailers have been presented from the world of Star Wars. The first preview of »Skeleton Crew« has already been released for everybody on YouTube:

At first glance, this strange, US-typical suburb looks a bit strange. Then we are treated to a kind of »The Goonies« in space with, of course, the first appearance of Jude Law. Since the series is set in the same time period as »The Mandalorian«, there is a possibility that Jude Law could also appear in a later crossover of the series. »Skeleton Crew« is primarily intended to appeal to young viewers, but also offers connections for older ones. The planned launch on Disney+ is December 3 of this year.

Exclusively for the D23 audience, there was a trailer for the second season of »Andor« and the movie »The Mandalorian & Grogu«. Both trailers were leaked on YouTube. But hopefully it won't be too long before Disney makes the trailers available to the general public in pristine quality.

Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni announced the return to the big screen with »The Mandalorian & Grogu«. The exclusive trailer looked damn good. Surprisingly, Razor Crest with Zeb at the controls could be seen. The mission takes Din Djarin & Grogu to an ice planet, confronts them with Snowtroopers, shows an escape on an AT-RT and encounters with AT-ATs, which of course evokes powerful original trilogy vibes. »The Mandalorian & Grogu« is due to be released in May 2026.

So for Star Wars fans, there are really good prospects again after the last, more "content-oriented" productions from Disney.

We're sure you know it too: it's often the villains (perhaps even more than the heroes) who entertain us and stay in our memories. Cinemas are turning very dark at the moment, because with its mysterious depiction, the horror-thriller »Longlegs« creates a really gloomy atmosphere. The trailer alone will make you freeze in your seats:

FBI agent Lee Harker (Maika Monroe) is tasked with solving a very special case. A serial killer named "Longlegs" (Nicolas Cage) destroys entire families by tricking fathers into killing their loved ones and then committing suicide. Harker gets to the bottom of the sinister events and has to conclude that there's more behind the killer's facade than just occult practices.

Most of all, we're excited about Nicolas Cage's role as a serial killer. The trailer for »Longlegs« doesn’t reveal much about that, so see for yourselves in the cinema!

We all grew up with toys. And who doesn't fondly remember all the adventures we had with our plastic heroes on the floor of our children's rooms? Depending on which generation we come from, our favorite toy may have been G.I. Joe, Big Jim or Barbie. Or we felt the force within us when playing with the small Star Wars figures from Kenner or followed Captain Kirk into unknown worlds. A little later, it was the Transformers, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe or the Turtles that sparked our childish imagination.

The Netflix series »The Toys That Made Us«, produced by the Nacelle Company, traced the history of our beloved and legendary toys in three seasons from 2017 to 2019.

Season 4 will cover the topics Superhero Toys, Nerf, Pokemon and American Greetings. Season 5 will be devoted to Hot Wheels, Ghostbusters, Polly Pocket and Fast Food Toys.

We are very excited about the superheroes and the Ghostbusters episodes. The episode about Hot Wheels could also be really interesting. And last but not least, the Fast Food Toys episode will perhaps bring one or two long-buried memories back to the light of day of our consciousness.

Specific release dates are yet to be announced.

On the last weekend in July, everything revolved around pop culture, and not just at San Diego Comic Con. Our screen heroes and villains were also celebrated on the other side of the world. At ChinaJoy in Shanghai and ACGHK in Hong Kong, two of the most important trade fairs in Asia, collectible makers had the opportunity to show their most exciting new products. Of course, Hot Toys had the most to show, as the manufacturer from Hong Kong made use of their home advantage at the ACGHK and presented visitors with some real hits, including a few premieres. On display were an impressive Joaquin Phoenix Joker, a very detailed Battle Damaged Darth Vader and a beautiful Black Widow. Of course, special attention was paid to »Deadpool & Wolverine«, for which brand new figures were revealed. But other manufacturers such as Hono Studio and threezero were also present. After making »Clerks« in 1994, Kevin Smith was actually considered something of a new hope for independent film. »Mallrats«, »Chasing Amy«, and »Dogma« also found their audience. The supporting characters Jay and Silent Bob (Smith himself) even generated a certain cult factor, provided you could relate to the stoner humor.

Smith was aware that this would wear off over time, and so he tried his hand at the rather bizarre horror films »Red State«, »Tusk« and the unspeakably bad »Yoga Hosers«, which marked the low point in Smith's career in 2016. This was followed up by directing episodes in various TV-series and a return to stoner films. A strategy, if it even was one, that can best be described as "run for cover". Looking at his work in retrospect, unfortunately not much remains creatively and in terms of film history.

Now there is a new Kevin Smith film, »The 4:30 Movie«, and a first trailer for it. It basks in 80s nostalgia, memories of the cinema of those years and a coming of age story. This film preview hasn't completely convinced us so far and at first glance seems pretty trivial. But, remembering Smith's early work, we are really wishing for a good movie by him.

The flick will have a limited theatrical release in the United States on September 13.

25 years ago today, »The Sixth Sense« celebrated its world premiere in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The highly successful film was nominated for six Oscars and made author and director M. Night Shyamalan world famous overnight.

The respected child psychologist Dr. Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis) treats the nine-year-old boy Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment), who appears to be suffering from an anxiety disorder. Little by little, Dr. Crowe wins the boy's trust and learns his secret: "I see dead people!"

The film has a wonderfully eerie atmosphere at times. Bruce Willis is not the action hero this time, but plays the role of the psychologist with nuance and a lot of feeling. His young co-actor is certainly his equal and was nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actor.

The film is famous above all for its twist ending that you simply don't see coming. If you watch the film again, you will be surprised that all the clues are laid out before our eyes from the very beginning - a very clever staging!

But the film also became a bit of a trap for Shyamalan, who from then on tried to make the twist ending his trademark, sometimes with more, sometimes with less success. But he has not yet been able to achieve the virtuosity of the ending of »The Sixth Sense« (perhaps with the exception of »Unbreakable«).

For us, »The Sixth Sense« is a really special movie - yes, we even would say that it's a 90's masterpiece. And it is surely a highlight within the career of the brillant Bruce Willis. So in case your weekend will be stormy and rainy, »The Sixth Sense« would be the perfect movie to re-watch, especially for this great anniversary!

The French manufacturer Cartoon Kingdom hasn't just been dedicated to Anime in it's still pretty short life since 2021, but also to several Franco-Belgian comic and cartoon classics. Besides amazing collectibles of »Lucky Luke«, »Popeye«, »Marsupilami« and »Inspector Gadget«, it's Cartoon Kingdom's statue of »The Smurfs« that caught our attention. Or, to put it more precisely, this detailled and wonderfully executed statue fascinated us right away - because there couldn't be a more iconic way to capture a scene from »The Smurfs« in a diorama.

Speaking of "capturing": of course, that's exactly what Gargamel and Azrael are trying to do here - without much success. However, the ten Smurfs, which you can see in this statue (if you are good), are not impressed by the evil wizard (who's bad!). Only Papa Smurf seems slightly worried and calls the other tiny creatures into the mushroom house while beautiful Smurfette is daydreaming on the balcony ...

We found the execution of this scene of an absolute classic from our childhood so great and were so smurfed by the details, the paint job and the playfulness of this strictly limited collectible, that we decided to pronounce the The Smurfs Statue by Cartoon Kingdom our 💥 Product of the Month 💥 in August 2024.

The San Diego Comic Con is the perfect occasion for reveals and new announcements, and not just for collectibles manufacturers. Film studios also use the SDCC to give fans exciting news about upcoming film and series projects, show first scenes and drop trailers. We have put together a selection of the most interesting news, reveals and trailers for you here.

Of course, like every year, Marvel was a big part of it. MCU boss Kevin Feige hosted the panel in which news about some upcoming films were revealed. New scenes from the next MCU film »Captain America: Brave New World« were shown, which is scheduled to be released in cinemas in February 2025. Giancarlo Esposito and Harrison Ford's roles as Sidewinder and Red Hulk have also been officially announced. The first excerpts from the film »Thunderbolts«, which is supposed to unite several anti-heroes from the MCU, were also shown. The film starring, among others, Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan and David Harbour is set to hit the big screen in May. It will be followed in July by »The Fantastic Four: First Steps« with Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, of which first scenes were shown as well. The big reveal came at the end of the panel though, when Feige announced 2 big hits: the Avengers are returning to cinemas in May 2026 and 2027 with »Avengers: Doomsday« and »Avengers: Secret Wars«. The two films are directed by well-known faces, the Russo brothers, who also revealed the villain of the two films. Or rather, he revealed himself, because in full Doctor Doom getup, a mysterious figure stepped forward on the stage and revealed himself to be ... Robert Downey Jr.! Of course, Amazon Prime Video also took advantage of the opportunity and dropped the next trailer for Season 2 of »The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power«, which gave us further epic insights into the new episodes, which will be made available weekly on the streaming service starting August 29th. Fans of »The Boys« also have reason to be happy, because Prime Video announced another spin-off to the series. In addition to the second season of »Gen V« and »The Boys: Mexico«, »Vought Rising« is going to serve as a prequel accompanying the rise of Vought. We are excited to watch the story of how the conglomerate came about!

New trailers also came from the DC universe: After two teasers, there is now an official trailer for the much anticipated »The Penguin« series by Matt Reeves, which only makes us even more excited about Colin Farrell as a supervillain and also gives us a more intense look at Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone. A first teaser for »Creature Commandos« was also presented, which certainly made us curious. The animated series written by James Gunn takes place after season 1 of »Peacemaker« and tells the story of a group of monsters that are commanded by Amanda Waller for a secret operation.

There has been some action at the S.P.A.C.E Headquarters this morning, because a long awaited container from Far East has arrived (luckily before the big heat set in 😅)! Of course, as always, it came with a big batch of new supply for the 1/6 scale collectors among you: bodies, animals and many different figures, including Iconiq's version of the Bubble Head Nurse and the Red Pyramid Thing, the creepy creatures from »Silent Hill 2«. Our action-figures got some extraterrestrial additions as well, because the characters of Four Horsemen's Cosmic Legions »Outpost Zaxxius« wave took the trip in the container. We're going to check these and many more amazing collectibles and make them available in our shop over the course of the week 🥳. In episode 3 of our SDCC 2024 special of 💫 NEUES AUS DEM FIGUREN UNIVERSUM 💫, for once we're not going to the show floor of the San Diego Comic Con. The creative minds at Sideshow did their own thing again: They organized Sideshow Con at the same time, where they served us their new collectibles in several live streams from their in-house studio. And they are impressive! Both the common themes such as Marvel and DC, as well as the manufacturer's originals, got some amazing additions 🥳. And of course the new products from Tweeterhead and Infinity Studio, which were also presented, should not go unmentioned. So there is a lot of new things to discover outside of Comic Con. And on top of that we're taking a first look at a much anticipated statue - check it out 😉!

We continue with our next special from 💫 NEUES AUS DEM FIGUREN UNIVERSUM 💫 for San Diego Comic Con 2024! Our second special episode is all about Iron Studios, because this year Sven was again guided through their booth by our friends from Brazil in a video call and was shown the manufacturer's most interesting exhibits. Sven and Eva watch the booth tour and draw their conclusions about the collectibles - among which we discovered some really cool new items 🤩. Fans of Deadpool & Wolverine, MOTU and the Turtles will definitely get their money's worth here 🐢. Check it out!

»Deadpool & Wolverine« is not only expected to be one of the biggest cinema hits of this summer, it's also a guarantee for a new supply of collectibles. Of course, Hot Toys in particular cannot miss the opportunity to launch new versions of the two title characters in a 1/6 scale.

The Logan figure was announced a few weeks ago and is really impressive! After various versions in civilian and dark costumes, this time the mutant comes in his classic yellow suit that can be seen in the trailer. In addition to the regular, masked head, with the deluxe version you also get a great unmasked headsculpt of Hugh Jackman. This version also includes a pair of arms with long sleeves as well as battle-damaged armor pieces with bullet holes and cracks with nice weathering. And as usual, both versions come with multiple interchangeable hands to pose the figure however you like. There are a total of 3 pairs of hands, each of which you can attach Wolverine's claws to. And another version has just been added: the »TVA Jacket« figure has a battle-damaged headsculpt, 10 hands in total and a jacket, which you can remove to reveal the mutant's torso. And of course there's also a figure of our favorite anti-hero. Hot Toys has tailored a brand new suit for Wade Wilson that allows for maximum mobility and includes a belt, holster and strap-on sheaths to accommodate his weapons, including a dagger, 2 katanas and 2 pistols. Of course, with interchangeable eye pieces for the masked head and a total of 12 hands, there are various options for the facial expressions and gestures to showcase the figure.
