Scott Summers was an introspective orphan after witnessing the apparent murder of his parents by emperor D’ken, a member of the royal family of the Shi`ar extraterrestrial empire. After escaping the orphanage of the nefarious Mister Sinister, when his mutant powers manifested Scott was rescued by Professor Xavier, headmaster of a school destined to help mutants control their abilities.
