Elric of Melnibone

Elric of Melniboné is a character created by Michael Moorcock and the protagonist of a series of sword and sorcery stories taking place on an alternative Earth. He was first introduced in 1961 in the novel "The Dreaming City." Elric, the last Emperor of his ancient and decadent kingdom, is a complex and tragic figure. His pale skin and frail health necessitate his reliance on powerful magic and the cursed sword, Stormbringer. Despite his heritage, Elric is introspective and questions the violent ways of his people. Elric is an accomplished sorcerer and summoner. As emperor of Melniboné, Elric is able to call for aid upon the traditional patron of the Melniboné emperors, Arioch, a Lord of Chaos and Duke of Hell.
