Smeagol & Deagol »A Shadow of the Past« Statue

A quiet day on the water. A fishing rod, a small raft, the silence of the river – and beneath it, half-buried in the mud, the One Ring awaits its next bearer. Weta Workshop captures this fateful moment from »The Lord of the Rings« in a two-tiered 1:6 scale diorama, limited to 800 pieces worldwide.

The composition utilizes the water’s surface as a narrative dividing line: Above, Sméagol and Déagol drift on their raft, captured in a seemingly carefree moment of fishing – Sméagol laughing, the world still unspoiled. Below, visible through a transparent acrylic pane, a large fish tugs at the line while the Ring rests silently in the silt. Each component stands in direct tension with the next: the pull of the line, the movement of the raft, and the inevitable gravity of what is to follow.

For the first time, Weta Workshop presents Sméagol in his earlier human form – long before the Ring corrupted him. The likeness to Andy Serkis has been meticulously crafted in this gentler interpretation, lending the diorama a palpably melancholic atmosphere.

The physical sculpt was created by Middle-earth artist Brigitte Wuest, complemented by digital work from Bawal Saggi, Kathryn Parr, and Jason Zhang.
