In the year 1922, »Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror« hit the cinemas of the Weimar Republic. It was directed by the brilliant Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau. The film is an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel »Dracula«. Screenwriter Henrik Galeen altered a few details of the plot, changed the locations, and invented new names for the characters. Thus, the aristocratic Count Dracula became the rat-like Count Orlok, played by the theater actor Max Schreck.
Bram Stoker's widow, was not amused, took the case to court, won, and subsequently ordered the destruction of all copies of the film. Fortunately for all of us, a few copies had already made it abroad and were beyond legal recourse. Thus, one of the greatest works of German Expressionism was preserved for us.
Count Orlok became one of the first icons of horror. His tall, gaunt figure, pointed ears, rodent incisors, and spider-esque fingers with claw-like nails make him seem barely human. He is a solitary creature of the night, as tragic as he is sinister.
This unmistakable appearance is just as terrifying today as it was 100 years ago. It's echoed not only in remakes starring Klaus Kinski or Doug Jones, or in the reinterpretation featuring Bill Skarsgård by Robert Eggers, released in December of 2024. He's also an appearance that practically cries out for collectibles and has now amassed a well-stocked gallery of action figures, busts, and statues.
A major highlight for us was the fantastic 1/6 scale collectible figure from Kaustic Plastik and Infinite Statue & Collectibles, which was released to celebrate the 100th anniversary of this classic. The winning team of the two Italian manufacturers once again contributes its combined expertise and now presents Count Orlok as a Plus Format statue. It's the first work in this line, in which legendary characters are immortalized as statues made of resin with PVC heads in a 1:4 scale, with film-accurate, hand-sewn costumes, presented on an artfully designed base.
The horror fans in our crew were already thrilled, but everyone else was quickly won over by this work and unanimously voted
Count Orlok our 💥 Product of the Month 💥 for Shocktober 2025.
We can't get enough of the details in this portrait. The precise modeling and the congenial paintwork, complemented by woolly hair for his eyebrows and behind his ears, bring the undead to life. The accurately modeled bony, veined hands with terrifying fingernails are a work of art in themselves. The statue is limited to 180 pieces worldwide and is beautifully enhanced by a base in a catacomb design with stone arches, bones, skulls, and rats, reminding us of the horror of the plague that came to Wisborg with Nosferatu.
